Bring a Friend

Science backs up the idea that spending time with friends enhances your enjoyment of an activity. This is especially true of adrenaline-filled activities like motorsports, or heck, even just working out at the gym! Physical activity stimulates the release of sweet sweet brain juices we call dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. These potent “feel good” neurotransmitters control mood regulation.

There are even companies out there who put on adrenaline-filled adventure events for singles to meet potential mates. The mix of adrenaline, fear, and completing slightly scary tasks with others can develop stronger emotional bonds. Bring this idea back to your motorsport for a winning combo of enjoyment and connection with others.

Friends and motorsports; a perfect combo. Stand up jet skis can fall on either side of the sporting spectrum: recreational or extreme. Add friends to the mix, and you have a potent cocktail to shoo away the blues. I spoke about my own battle with depression in the Get Motovated Episode 2 Podcast and how stand up jet skis altered the trajectory of my life. The stand up community is tight-knit, supportive, and filled with like-minded individuals looking for a challenge.

One of the key parts of riding stand ups is how easy it is to share with friends. Unlike, say, a sportbike or race car in which you would not let just anyone ride, a jet ski is less dangerous for the average person to try their luck. Out of self-preservation, most people will keep the speed low on their first rides, and the water is quite cushion-y at slow speeds. The controls are fairly simple, no need for a clutch or special electronics.

Instead of them dropping your 400lb motorcycle, it is less risky to let a friend try your stand up. You’ll see the smile blossom across their face as soon as they take to the water. A friendly ribbing should not go amiss when the inevitable dunking happens. It is all part of the fun learning something new!

Do yourself, and your friends and family, a favor and share your love of stand ups with the world. Everyone deserves to have the opportunity to feel the rush of standing for the first time, where mind, body, and machine meld together as one feel-good neurotransmitting producing unit!
